Pansies and other flowers at Floriade 2007
Our holiday in Canberra
September 2007
As far as I could tell, most of the flowers on display in this year’s Floriade festival in Canberra were tulips and daffodils. There was a generous sprinkling of other flowers too, including plenty of pansies, one of my favourites. My mother used to grow these in twin beds each side of the path leading to the door of the home where I grew up. It is a shame that she never really had much opportunity to travel during her life. She would have been astounded at the display of hundreds of thousands of flower blooms all together in one area such as that during Floriade.

Poppies at Floriade, 2007

I must admit that poppies are not my favourite flower. But when I saw the results of the few photos taken at this year’s Floriade festival in Canberra, I have had to change my mind. They are quite photographic after all. Initially I took these photos to appease my wife, but now I can also see the simple beauty in these wonderful flowers.

These photos were taken during our visit to Floriade in Canberra in September 2007. Floriade is a month flower festival in the capital city of Australia. Tens of thousands of flowering plants, mostly bulbs, adorn the gardens near the city. Entrance to the displays is free and well worth spending three or four hours admiring the wonderful display.

How about these two shots of bright red tulips?
I think that the brilliant colours available in some of the flowers these days are stunningly vibrant. Taking the shots up close in good lighting conditions also helps.

Many of the displays of blooms at Floriade in Canberra earlier this year consisted of tulips and daffodils. One area, however, was dedicated to beautiful irises of different colours. The photos on this page are representative of those on display.
