The colours of Floriade 2007 Canberra
Our holiday in Canberra

I was almost overwhelmed by the amazing array of colours on display at Floriade in Canberra. We spent one whole afternoon wandering around the many displays of tulips, hyacinths, irises, narcissus and pansies, as well as several other types of bulbs and annuals.

On our recent holiday in Canberra we spent a whole afternoon feasting on an amazing display of colour in Commonwealth Park. I had been planning this trip for some years, but events conspired to prevent us from attending until this year. A major feature of the floral display was the tens of thousands of tulips and other bulbs in flower. All were in specially designed beds. The overall theme this year was “Aussie icons, myth and legends.”

During our recent holiday in Canberra we visited the Floriade display of flowers. I went a little crazy with my camera and I was quite pleased with the results. Here are two more photos of tulips taken on that day.

One of the most impressive sights at Floriade this year was the myriads of tulips in flower. I tried to capture the colour and beauty of these wonderful flowers in a different way – by photographing them from a low level and with the light coming from behind. I think that the effect is quite stunning.

When we had a short holiday in Canberra earlier this year, a highlight for me was a visit to Floriade. This is a month long annual festival held in Canberra, our national capital. Hundreds of thousands of flowering plants, mainly bulbs like tulips and daffodils create an sensory overload for the visitor.
It was a great opportunity to really give my camera a great workout.
