One Million Views of our Photo Gallery
Wow!
One million views on our photo gallery!
That is quite a milestone.
For people who are new to this blog you may not know about my family photo gallery. Over 1700 photos on a wide range of themes and subjects appear on our photo gallery. Over a thousand of them were taken by me, some by my wife and the remainder by my son. He is quickly catching up with me, due mainly to the fact that he is currently on holiday in South America giving his new camera a really good workout.
Some of the subjects covered in our gallery include:
- birds
- animals
- flowers
- Australia all over
- insects
- Nepal
- Thailand
- North and South America
- Hong Kong
- architecture
- parks and gardens
- scenery
… and much, much more.

Floriade 2007, Canberra
Our holiday in Canberra
September 2007
I enjoyed the challenge of taking dozens of photos of flowers in a short space of time during our visit the Floriade in Canberra earlier this year.
I tried to capture to overall scope, colour and extensiveness of the display in some photos, while concentrating on individual blooms in other photos. I am particularly pleased with the shot shown above with the sunlight coming through the petals giving it a special glow.

Sydney Harbour Bridge and photography
Our holiday in New South Wales
September 2007
It doesn’t take much imagination to realise that the Sydney Harbour Bridge is probably one of the most photographed features of Australia. It may even be the most popular photographic subject of both local and foreign visitors to Sydney. It is certain that it is instantly recognisable as one of our most popular landmarks.
On our recent visit to Sydney we had a beautiful day exploring the Royal Botanic Gardens and nearby parks. Late in the afternoon however, the weather changed the lighting conditions. Light cloud came in and the light became diffused and more subdued. This made an interesting challenge for photographers that afternoon, myself included. Because we get to Sydney so infrequently – this was only our third visit in eight years – I wanted to capture some images of the old “coathanger”, a term of endearment given to the bridge by many Aussies.
I was also on the wrong side of the bridge in the late afternoon. Shooting into the sun presents many challenges – and can bring interesting results. Although on the dull side I am still quite pleased with the above shot. It could perhaps have been improved by including a little more of the Opera House. I think, however, that it captures the mood of the harbour that afternoon.

Watch your back
While on one of my walks on my recent holiday in Robe, South Australia, I took many photos of the beach, the waves, the general scenery and some of the historic buildings in the town. I enjoy observing the patterns made by the wind and waves around rocks. I also enjoy looking at the rocks and the various shapes and textures of the rocks and the sand.
I was busy taking this series of photos and not really paying all that much attention to what was happening around me. I was suddenly aware of being surrounded by water. I’d briefly turned my back on the incoming tide. Fortunately the water was only a few centimetres deep when I realised my predicament and only my boots became slightly damp.Click on any photo to enlarge the image.
