Meknes, Morocco

Reception area of our hotel in Meknes, Morocco

After a long day exploring Rabat we travelled on towards Meknes, arriving well after dark. We settled into our accommodation for the night (shown above) and then walked a short distance down town to a lovely restaurant for the evening meal. This hotel was typical of those we stayed in during our tour. All were very comfortable and well kept with excellent service from the staff.

Next morning I took the photo below of a shop front. It was called “Miss Rose” but we left before we could see what kind of shop it was, or what it was selling. I only took the photo because our daughter’s name is Rose, and we had the delight of having her accompany us on this holiday.

Inside the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, Rabat, Morocco

The inside of the mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco was one of the many magnificent buildings we visited on our tour of the country. From the outside it looks like many other beautiful buildings, but once inside the true beauty of this monument can be fully appreciated, as shown in today’s photos.

The photo above shows the amazing artwork in the domed ceiling. The first one below shows details of the mosaics on the walls. The final two photos today show the detail of the fountain in the courtyard just outside.

From the outside the mausoleum of Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco is another beautiful building – there is no shortage of beautiful architecture in these great cities.

Once you move inside however, the level of beauty rises to another level entirely. It is magnificent. Words do not do it justice, so I’ll let my camera do the talking.

During our visit to Rabat in Morocco we spent a short time visiting the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. This is one of many magnificent buildings we saw during our visit. I particularly liked the guards on duty, like the one in the entrance shown in the photo above, and those on horses shown below.

In the coming days I will show more photos of the mausoleum,  including some of the mosaic artistry and even photos taken inside this beautiful building.

The last place we visited while in Rabat was the mausoleum of Mohammed V. He was born in 1909 and was sultan of Morocco from 1927 until 1953 when he was exiled. On his return from exile in 1955 he was again recognised as the sultan until he became king in 1957. He remained king until his death in 1961 and is buried in the magnificent mausoleum shown in today’s photos. In the coming days I will shown more of this magnificent building, both inside and outside.
