Road trip: Murray Bridge to Narrandera
On the first day of our road trip to Sydney earlier this year we covered a lot of territory on the first day. We left home in Murray Bridge early in the morning , had morning tea at Lameroo, lunch at Ouyen and arrived in Narrandera in the dark for a late dinner. Along the way we didn’t stop much, only to change drivers or to grab a quick bite to eat.
As we drove I kept a lookout for birds, making short lists here and there, especially taking note of interesting birds. I’ve already written about some of these on my Trevor’s Birding site. Instead of repeating that here, I’ve made some links back to that site:
- Australasian Grebe at Lameroo
- There were no Galahs at Galah
- Some birds seen in Ouyen
- Ouyen to Narrandera
It was a very tiring day of driving and we were pleased to have arrived at our motel in Narrandera. Even though this was near the intersection of two very busy highways, the noise of trucks throughout the night couldn’t keep us awake.
Lameroo, South Australia
On the first morning of our recent road trip to Sydney we left in good time in the morning. We stopped for a short break at Lake Roberts in Lameroo in the eastern district of South Australia. We had a cup of tea, a few biscuits and changed drivers.
This spot is a favourite picnic area for us and we have stopped here many times in the past. It is usually a good spot for birding but on this occasion I only recorded a few species, including the duck shown in the photo above. That is not an Australian native bird! Below is a distant shot of an Australasian Grebe out in the middle of the artificial lake.
Another trip
I’m back again after quite a lull in postings here on my travel blog. Truth is, I’ve been very busy working on my novel for children over the last few months. I wrote the story last year, but more recently I’ve been trolling through it over and over to get it just right. I’m now up to the 8th draft and it’s almost ready to go off to a publisher. You can read about how I went about writing the story by clicking here.
My novel is set in the beautiful country of Nepal. You can read about my travels in Nepal by clicking here.
I’ve recently been on a road trip to Sydney to spend time with family, especially my new grandson. Over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing photos and writing about that trip, so stayed tuned.
Mystery Bay, south coast of New South Wales
While we were having a morning tea break at Mystery Bay picnic area, I managed to get a few lovely photos of the coastline and some of the flowers growing in the Eurobodalla National Park.

When we travel we often watch out for local bakeries to visit. It’s an indulgence of ours – and a lot of other people I know.
To be fair we did need to get some fresh bread to make sandwiches for our lunch later in the day. We found a suitable bakery in one of the towns we passed through on our journey south along the south coast of New South Wales.
A little further on we pulled off the main road into the picnic area at Mystery Bay. This is a part of the Eurobodalla National Park. It was a lovely sojourn while we enjoyed a cup of tea and the delights of the bakery.
